Planday’s mission is to empower businesses by making the relationship between hourly workers and their managers more efficient, transparent and productive— which ultimately leads to better business returns.
But that relationship has come under immense strain in the UK since the Brexit vote. According to the BHA 2017 Labour Migration Report, Brexit will cause a shortage of at least 60.000 hospitality workers per year, meaning it will become more and more difficult to hire and retain employees.
But when we looked for businesses who were speaking up about how Brexit is currently impacting them, and how they expect it to impact them in the future, we found very little. So, we decided to survey hundreds of hospitality professionals to see what they think Brexit means for the industry. It turns out, the UK hospitality industry could face significant staff shortages, among other consequences. The survey, conducted by YouGov, reveals that just over one in ten hospitality workers are thinking about leaving the UK as a result of Brexit. This is in stark contrast to hospitality managers’ expectations that only around 4% of their workers are considering leaving the UK due to Brexit.
